Iga Swiatek had a small moment with former Wimbledon Champion Andy Murray before heading for practice. The two players were heading towards the court when Iga met Murray and spoke to him for a few minutes. She was hesitant to practice with him, as she thought it would be a waste for him.

We actually spoke yesterday but playing with a girl probably would be some kind of a waste of time for him now; he needs to play with some guys. I’m not bothering him, especially before Wimbledon,” said Iga in her press conference.

The Polish national is the seventh seed at SW19 this year and will kick her campaign off on Monday.

Iga Swiatek and Andy Murray’s interaction

The 20-year-old Polish star has already made a name for herself in the tennis world. She has two titles to her name in 2021 and will be looking for her second Slam title, since the French Open in 2020.

Swiatek’s interaction with Murray was somewhat a funny one, as the Polish girl gave her reasons to not disturb the Scott. It certainly was a special fan moment for Iga, as she jokingly spoke about it with the media.

We actually spoke yesterday just for a second because we were both going the same way to the practice. I joked that maybe we’re going to the same practice. But I assume he’s pretty busy. Maybe that’s going to come up again, but really, he’s such a nice guy. It’s just nice to talk with him and to meet him. It would be great to play with him, but I don’t want to be too high maintenance,” said Swiatek in her press conference.

Andy’s sweet gesture towards Iga after her French Open win

In an interesting turn of events, Andy Murray took to Twitter to congratulate the 20-year-old Polish star for her commendable performance. In her reply, Iga asked Murray for a practice session on grass court. Murray replied in his usual witty, humorous way, joking about his age and weakness.

Andy Murray recently practiced with Roger Federer, as a preparatory ritual for the grass-court event. He will be the one to watch out for this season, as he is returning to SW19 after a 3-year hiatus.
