Belinda Bencic reigned supreme as the Hopman Cup champion a year ago. The Swiss player along with her partner Roger Federer bagged back-to-back titles in 2018 and 2019. But she’s disappointed to have not had the opportunity this year. Furthermore, the 23-year-old shared her Rogers Cup memories during a recent appearance on the ‘Match Point Canada’ podcast.
Bencic stunned the world by winning the 2015 Rogers Cup at just 18 years and 23 weeks of age. She surpassed Ana Ivanovic’s 2006 record and defeated four of the top six players in the world en route to the Canadian title.

“Rogers Cup is always in my heart. That was really my breakout tournament. I will never forget that one because it was a dream week for me and I also can’t believe it’s already been five years. Time’s flying past and still I have to keep going with my tennis,” Bencic reminisced on the podcast.
Furthermore, the 23-year-old mentioned how she would love to do it all over again in Canada. The Rogers Cup ranks as Bencic’s first-ever career title and the Flawil native was overjoyed to be thinking about playing there again.

Has Belinda Bencic been in touch with Roger Federer during the pandemic?
Belinda Bencic has been extremely fortunate to have shared the court with Roger Federer. The duo have teamed up on several occasions during the Hopman Cup. They’ve won the mixed-doubles national tournament twice to earn pride for their country.
Bencic looked back on her refreshing Hopman cup experience with Federer but is let down by the fact that the tournament is not on the calendar anymore. She formed a thick bond with Federer during their time together as teammates and wants to pair up on the court once more.
