The 21 Grand Slam champion, Novak Djokovic recently asserted that his rivalry with the Spaniard, Rafael Nadal is very “special.” He further stated that he has played against Nadal more than any other rivalry in the history of the sport. However, the former American tennis player, Chris Evert, was impressed with Djokovic’s statement.

Evert recently mocked Djokovic for his remarks about his rivalry with Nadal. As a result, the American tennis legend faced criticism from many tennis on social media.

Fans criticized the former tennis player, Chris Evert

The Serbian tennis player, Djokovic has competed against the Spanish tennis player, Nadal 59 times during his tennis journey. However, Evert has played against her friend and rival, Martina Navratilova on 80 occasions.

As a result, Chris Evert was not impressed with Djokovic’s statement as she responded, “Oops…”

However, many tennis fans slammed the former tennis player, Evert. As one of the fans stated, “You really felt the need to reply to this when he was clearly referring to men’s tennis? Aren’t you kinda embarrassed to reply to such a pathetic account? Good lord. I really hope Federer won’t spent his retirement tweeting cr@p like you and Navratilova do”

Meanwhile, one of Djokovic’s fans defended the Serbian tennis player by stating, “How casually they turn anything he says into a talking point only to criticize/attack him.”

Another fan criticized Evert by stating “Imagine winning grand slams and being hall of famers and still doing this trash on Twitter. I’ve realised from navratilova, evert etc that the post retirement life of great athletes is not always good.”

Meanwhile, one of the fans stated that Djokovic’s fans are overreacting, “Is it just me or are Nole fans really overreacting to this tweet?”

Another fan slammed Evert by stating “Of all the far more significant topics she should be speaking about, she chose this one out.🌝No offense Chrissy but you weren’t on ATP. Stay in your damn lane.”

Navratilova defended her rival and friend, Evert

Martina Navratilova and Chris Evert’s rivalry was considered one of the most ferocious rivalries in the history of the sport. However, they remained very close friends throughout their tennis journey. The former Czech–American tennis player, Navratilova has always come out in support of her friend Evert.

Recently, when Evert was criticized by many tennis fans, for her comment on Djojovic’s statement. Meanwhile, it was her rival and friend Navratilova who stepped in and supported Evert.

The 18 Grand Slam champion, Navratilova supported Evert by reacting to one of the fans who criticized her friend. Navratilova stated that Djokovic “literally said tennis,” and not mentioned “men’s” tennis when he talked about his rivalry with the Spaniard, Nadal.
