Aurelie Tourte, a French tennis umpire, will get the chance to officiate her first-ever Wimbledon Championships final, which will take place today between Ons Jabeur and Elena Rybakina. Previously, she officiated in many Grand Slam finals, 7 in total; though never officiated at Wimbledon before.

It is worth noting that she officiates for both ATP and WTA on various tour-level matches. Last year, she created history by officiating in the men’s singles Grand Slam final at the French Open. Thus, she became only the fifth woman to achieve this feat.
Tourte’s famous hindrance call involving Daniil Medvedev
Last year, at the National Bank Open in Toronto, Daniil Medvedev was playing against Alexander Bublik in the second round. During that match, a bizarre point and call happened which immediately went viral on social media.

After Bublik played a drop shot, Medvedev chased it and played a passing shot. Then, the Kazakh player played a tweener lob, trying to outsmart the Russian player. However, Medvedev guessed it and smashed it straight into his body. After that, he immediately apologized to Bublik by saying ‘sorry’. However, the point wasn’t over, as it somehow hit the racket of the Kazakh player went at the other end of the court. Before Medvedev could hit the winner, the chair umpire, Aurelie Tourte, called hindrance against the Russian player.
Medvedev could not believe this call as he said, “Can you imagine how stupid this call is? Because I had the ball to hit. This is gonna be on tennis TV bro.”

Bublik, on the other hand, had no idea what happened. After Medvedev’s explanation, he was also laughing hilariously. As the stadium was empty due to the pandemic, it was quite audible what they were saying at that moment.
Later, this incident sparked quite a debate on social media, as many thought Medvedev had every right to question the chair umpire’s decision. On the other hand, many fans thought, she had to follow the rule book and give the point to Bublik, as Medvedev talked during the point.
