The tournament organizers decided to ban Russian and Belarusian players in order to oppose the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. This move garnered mixed reactions, both from fans and the players. Some argued that having players of the concerned nation play under a neutral flag was enough, while others spoke in favor of the London-based tournament’s action.

The entire issue erupted into a debate that ended with Wimbledon staying firm on its decision. However, as the event rejected amendments, the ATP and the WTA, as a counteraction, stripped it of its ranking points. The tournament went ahead as planned, but the players who participated didn’t profit in terms of their ranking.
