A number of controversies surrounded the Wimbledon Championships this year, both before and after the tournament. Before the tournament, the banning of Russian and Belarusian players garnered mixed reactions from fans and players. Then, many players pulled out of the prestigious event after ATP and WTA removed ranking points.

Meanwhile, the 8-time Wimbledon champion, Roger Federer, also did not take part in this event, as he was still recovering from his knee surgery. With Federer and other top players missing the event, the attendance is comparatively lower than in previous years. Now, Wimbledon is also sacking some of its employees due to the low attendance.

Wimbledon Championships 2022 lays off its employees

It seems like Wimbledon is causing further controversies after sacking a few of its employees for minor reasons. According to reports, the AELTC (All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club) asked the contractors to cut a few staff after they suffered a huge loss due to poor attendance.

Later, a few employees complained about getting a sack on the spot after going to the lavatory without permission. Moreover, a few staff also said they were fired for sitting down after doing their work. Many employees feel it’s all because of the low attendance at this year’s Wimbledon, which forced the AELTC to take those harsh decisions.
