Ahead of the 2020 US Open, Novak Djokovic along with Vasek Pospisil founded the Professional Tennis Players Association (PTPA). The sole purpose of this association is to represent and protect the players’ interests at the biggest stage. Initially, it faced a lot of criticism for its launch in the middle of the global pandemic. The lack of female inclusions in the association also raised the eyebrows of many. But, now, females are also an active part of the association. Ons Jabeur and Paula Badosa are among some of the prominent names.

The 29-year-old Tunisian has always been outspoken. Often voicing out her opinions about the matters close to her heart, Ons Jabeur accused the tennis authorities of only listening to the top players and ignoring the rest. She revealed that before October 2021, when she had entered the top 10 for the first time she had also faced this problem. No one would listen to her and give value to her words. But with the introduction of Djokovic’s association with the players she found new hope for the tennis world. Here’s what she has revealed.

Jabeur has signed up for the executive committee of the PTPA, earlier this year. She has said that she really wants to do something for the sport and the players involved irrespective of their rankings. She also explained how Novak Djokovic and Vasek Pospisil had helped her know what PTPA does. Jabeur said they had helped her to learn so many things about tennis that she didn’t know as a newcomer to the tennis world.

The former World No. 2 spoke about the motivation to join the association and the confidence she felt in her voice after joining it. “Also seeing Novak all the time and seeing his knowledge about so many things outside tennis, that really also helped me a lot,” she said.

Further highlighting the goal of this massive step in general, Jabeur added, “I think we’re in the process of changing a little bit the sport in a better way and that’s the goal; to really protect the players 100 per cent and protect everyone, not just No. 1 or No. 2, to hopefully help as many players as we can.”
