It seemed like a harmless comment at first, but Andy Roddick may have unintentionally started some lighthearted repartee with Lindsay Davenport. His comment that Emma Navarro was better at tennis than rapping set the whole thing off. Still, when Davenport brought up the subject again, she ridiculed Roddick for his uncensored comments, and the jovial debate took an unexpected turn.

In one of the recent Served Up with Andy Roddick podcast conversations, the ATP tennis star talked about how he got into trouble for an undefined reason. He stated, “So I got into trouble for basically saying that Emma Navarro is a better tennis player than a rapper, which I didn’t hear the rap during the first reaction during the segment we’re talking about. I just looked at all of the enthused fans’ faces and it was like someone kicked a puppy or something that was their reaction.”

With Davenport in the conversation, he questioned not only her fellow Americans but also the fans, saying that they were just upset because he didn’t know that he was a better rapper than a player. To which, in no time, the three-time Grand Slam champion fired a comment back, on how it was quite rude of him at the first place. She stated, “No, but you were such a d**k about it.”

Upon earning a position on Team USA’s Billie Jean King Cup roster and making her tournament debut, the 22-year-old tennis player was given the typical assignment given to all newcomers: writing and performing a rookie rap. Roddick, though, didn’t appear all that impressed with her performance.

On the other hand, Davenport responded to his lackluster remark with levity, adding some lighthearted humor to the exchange. Roddick then said, “Message heard loud and clear saying I was harsh, I like the tennis game more than rapping. Take it back, I like all the rapping, I would buy all the albums. I do not want to be on Lindsay’s bad side, I’ve avoided for many years.”

But even after understanding his mistake and clearing it out, the WTA legend is in no mood to leave his friend and find the perfect opportunity to mock him again and again. Not only the three-time Grand Slam champion but there were a lot of other WTA players who left impressed with her rapping skills.

Other WTA players who appreciated Emma Navarro’s rap

She first dismissed the rookie rap tradition as a joke after learning about it from Taylor Townsend. “I’m like, ‘What’s a rookie rap?’ She is like, ‘You’ll find out.’ And I’m like, yeah, that’s hilarious and then we were in the van on the ride on the way to whatever dinner that was.”

The young American had to write and perform a rap on stage during the press conference. Players like Coco Gauff praised Navarro’s performance, saying that she “ate,” while Shelby Rogers exclaimed, “What a performance!” Speaking up next, Clervie Ngounoue said that Navarro “left absolutely no crumbs.” Navarro’s remarkable ability to speak on the mic generated a lot of excitement online and demonstrated her skill outside of the tennis court!
