Former Manchester United great Andy Cole wants to see Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale at Old Trafford, but isn’t sure if last season’s young sensation Harry Kane would live up to the expectations this season.

Manchester United have looked desperate to upgrade their attacking line, much because of the uncertain future of Robin van Persie at the club, and Andy Cole insisted that the Real Madrid duo of Bale and Benzema have the talent to take United to the next level.

Cole said: “I like him (Benzema); he’s a very good player and played at the highest level for a numerous amount of years. He’s done it at international level and you look at that and say that could definitely work with him and Rooney.

“What do the fans want? That’s what the fans want. If Man United have got €150-200 million to spend and there’s talk of Bale, then that’s what the fans want to see, that’s the X-Factor, for people to say ‘wow’.

“Manchester United has always been that kind of club, always wanting big name players to come here and fans to get buoyant about.”

Cole, who scored 102 goals for Manchester United in six successful years at the club, labelled Harry Kane as a ‘baby’ and said that Aguero would be a better man to lead the attacking line, but warned that the centre forward will be under a lot of pressure at Manchester United.

“He’s (Kane) had a brilliant first season,” he said. “But then can he come to Man United, and if it is true for £40m, and bring to Man United what Man United need?”

“Whoever comes to Man United as a centre forward is going to be under a hell of a lot of pressure.”

“They need to get somewhere and if I was being cheeky, I would say I’d give you £60m for Aguero because Aguero, fit, is the best centre forward in the Premier League.”

“I think the kid (Kane) is talented,” he said. “We have to be honest. He’s had half a season where everything went for him. Penalties at the keeper and rebounds are coming straight to his feet.

“He’s scored some goals but to take that leap – because your second season in the Premier League is always tough – to leave Tottenham and come to Man United and for Man United to pin all their hopes on him, for the money and if it did happen, that’s a hell of a lot of pressure.

“Man United need to compete in Europe and the championship ell. He’s a baby, still learning his trade.”

Although there has been a lot of speculation about these players’ future, both Bale and Benzema have signaled that they don’t see their future away from the Spanish capital, and Harry Kane has also insisted that he will wear a Tottenham shirt next season.
