Barcelona suffered a shocking 1-0 defeat last night against Malaga at the Camp Nou, and were thus refrained from reaching the top of the table this weekend.

The top contenders for the La Liga title, Real Madrid, will play a match on Sunday against Elche and will remain at the top of the table. Barca’s winning streak of 11 in all competitions was broken after Juanmi scored a goal owing to a defensive error by Dani Alves and stunned Barcelona. This was the only goal scored in the game and the Catalans failed to level the scoreboard.
Barcelona kept strong possession of the ball throughout but failed to create any clear cut chances against Kameni to level the game. Various chances were created by Andres Iniesta and Jordi Alba but all in vain. Luis Suarez and Pique also tried to score but were not productive in their endeavours.
A resilient Malaga continued to look dangerous on the break while Barca were caught offside a number of times as they struggled to make any major impact in the final third.
The result now leaves Barca a point behind Real Madrid, and Luis Enrique’s side must strengthen for their Champions League clash with Manchester City midweek if they’re to advance further in the competition.
