Barty hammers Wang to take the WTA Elite Trophy

The Australian Woman, Ashleigh Barty, rallied past the defending champion Julia Goerges, to reserve a berth in the finals of the WTA Elite Trophy. Along with the 26-year-old, Wang Qiang, who routed the Spaniard, Garbine Muguruza in straight sets to reach the final. Barty defeated the Chinese Wang Qiang, 6-3, 6-4 in final of the Hengqin Life WTA Elite Trophy in Qiang’s home country. She dominated throughout the WTA final to pull off the third title of her career in China. Also, she bags $2.35 million from the tournament for the 12 best-ranked players who failed to qualify for the WTA Finals.

Barty seized 16 of the first 22 points to take a 4-0 lead in the opening set. Wang made a good use of the Australian’s hasty serve and set the score to 4-3. Barty once again broke her and sealed the opening set. China’s top-ranked player, Wang had a tough time with clinging to her serves. And the Australian woman clinched the WTA Zhuhai title with an impeccable backhand crosscourt volley. The Chinese woman has risen to the 22nd position in the world. Earlier this year, Barty, who took a break from her tennis career to play cricket. It was invincible when she won the first set this year. Barty consolidated her level in tennis and broke into the top 20 in the world.

The Australian, Barty took 82 minutes to claim her second title of this year. The 22-year-old, accomplished the titles on grass at the Nottingham Open earlier this year and at 2017 Malaysian Open but by far her biggest. Additionally, she reaches the career-high ranking and an all-important top-16 seeding at 2019 Australian Open. “It’s been a great finish in China this week,” she said. “It’s been a phenomenal year and I’m looking forward to a bit of holiday and then getting ready for the Australian summer.”
