The greatest sporting teams in the world have enjoyed lengthy durations of dominance in their respective sports. The dominance of a great side is often highlighted by its winning-streak. The current record in the MLB is held by the New York Giants (now known as the San Francisco Giants).

The New York Giants established the record of longest winning streak in 1916. Interestingly, since then no team has broken this streak; however, some did come close.

The Giants clinched 26 games in a row in 1916

Unlike some other sports, in baseball it’s only winning or losing; there is no place for a draw. However, back in 1916, the New York Giants were trying to extend their 12-game winning streak by beating the Pittsburgh Pirates. Unexpectedly, a rainstorm halted the game, and the match was tied. Still, the game was recorded as a win for Giants, and not a tie.

The New York Giants ended the season with 88-66 record and not with 85-66-1. And also established the record of winning 26 games in a row, unbeaten in over 80 years. The team moved to San Francisco in 1858 and is now known as the San Francisco Giants.

Following them, in second place, are the Cleveland Indians with a 22-game winning streak. Clevland’s record is the longest winning streak in AL history. Interestingly, there were no interruptions by draws between their extraordinary performances to win 22 times in a row. The team established the record in 2017, removing Chicago Cubs from the second-highest position.

Cubs had established their highest, and now the overall third-highest winning streak back in 1935 with 21 wins.

Looking at some other teams’ winning streaks, the Athletics have a team record of 20 straight wins, which they had established in 2002. The Braves have a record of 15 wins in a row, without allowing over four runs in any of those 15 games in 2000.

The Dodgers have their winning streak record at 15, which was established way back in 1924. While Mariners also have the same winning streak record won in 2001. One match behind them is the Orioles, who have clinched 14 winning streaks twice, the most recent one being in 1973.
