How did Michael Jordan first get a deal with Nike?

Michael Jordan inked a contract with Nike in 1984, agreeing to a 250,000-dollar upfront payment combined with his own sneaker line. Nike was a new brand then, striving to compete with Converse and Adidas, but they grasped the opportunity when Converse refused to adhere to Jordan’s requests.

Nike made 126 million dollars that year alone because of the transaction, and they’ve continued to make huge profits ever since. They estimated the Nike Air Jordan brand to be worth $3 billion at the end of 2019. And Jordan ended up making over 1.3 billion of that.
