Sometimes, a player or athlete has two sports they excel at. Eventually, if they want to play professionally, they make a choice. Detroit Pistons rookie Cade Cunningham – who might just take home the Rookie of the Year honors – was also once a football quarterback.
Interestingly, the young NBA star believes Los Angeles Lakers stars LeBron James and Anthony Davis are among players who could certainly play in the NFL. The rookie was asked the question apropos to his football history, and his answer certainly did not disappoint.

Cunningham was in an interview with Bleacher Report’s Jason Dumas when they started talking about him playing as a QB. Eventually, Cunningham spoke about which NBA player could score a TD in the NFL. As mentioned, the 20-year-old chose James and Davis as his two choices.

As two of the most physically dominant players in the NBA, Cunningham’s answer was not surprising. “I’m sure LeBron could have in his day. Anthony Davis,” Cunningham stated. Another player he named was Pistons forward Saddiq Bey. “If I was his quarterback, I would get him the ball in the end zone. I’m sure there’s a bunch of guys who can score.
James and NFL
Of course, James’ history with NFL is well known. Along with basketball, James was also a good football player and could have ended up signing with an NFL team. In fact, as per James himself, the Cowboys or Seattle Seahawks could have recruited him as well.
“I would have made the team,” James had said. Additionally, tryout rumors during the 2011 NBA lockout also hinted at the same.

While James could have made it to the NFL, there’s no saying that his career graph and success would have remained the same. The 37-year-old is still on top of his game with the
Lakers and is averaging an impressive 28.8 points per game. The same can be said for Cunnigham, who has ultimately chosen basketball as the sport he wants to play. Even though he is playing the first season of his career (15.4 PPG), there is no denying his skills.
