Michael Jordan was the phenomenon of his time. He spent just 14 years in the NBA, which is not much when compared to other NBA greats. However, he managed to achieve almost everything during those 14 years. MJ was a top prospect from his high school days and some of the top colleges in the States wanted to recruit him. However, he ended up with the University of North Carolina, snubbing others.

His Airness attended the Emsley A. Laney High School in North Carolina. He caught everyone’s attention in his junior varsity and senior teams during his high school and made it to the All-American Game as a senior.

Multiple top colleges recruited Jordan after high school. Some of the colleges interested in Jordan were Duke, North Carolina, South Carolina, Syracuse, and Virginia. However, MJ ended up with North Carolina. This upset Duke’s Coach K, who wrote a heartfelt letter to Jordan before taking the role of the coach at the college.

Coach K’s heart-melting letter to Michael Jordan

Coach K’s letter to Michael Jordan recently went viral on social media. He wished Jordan the best in his career in his letter.

Coach K wrote: “Dear Mike, I am sorry to hear that you no longer have an interest in learning more about Duke University, however I do want you to know that my staff and I wish you the very best in your college career. You are a fine young man and you should make an immediate impact on whatever you choose. Take care, and best of luck.”

Jordan did play for the Bulls for the majority of his career, but he was a North Carolinian as well. He attended his high school and college both in North Carolina. Moreover, after his retirement, he decided to own the NBA franchise from North Carolina itself. It shows how close Jordan has been to the state.

MJ did well in his college was named the ACC Freshman of the Year. In both junior and senior teams he played for the Tar Heels, he was selected to the NCAA All-American First Team. However, he decided to forego his final year and entered the 1984 NBA Draft.
