Dwyane Wade is undoubtedly one of the most popular NBA players of all time. His illustrious career has assured him a place in the Hall of Fame in the future, while his commitment to his team and the game is valued by everyone. Of course, those who know of Wade are also aware of his love for Michael Jordan.
Jordan had been Wade’s idol growing up – something which continues to reflect in his work.
In a recent interview, Wade spoke of buying Jordans as a kid, and how that made him feel.

Dwyane Wade on how it felt to buy Jordans as a kid
While speaking to Dax Shepard and Monica Padman on the podcast Armchair Expert, Wade spoke of Jordan and his influence on him. To any kid in the 90s, the Jordans were possibly the best gifts one could receive. The shoes certainly did not come in cheap and were also not available to everyone.
“I remember the day Jordans came out and he went and stood in line. And back in the day, you had to get there early,” Wade said. “You know, maybe the day before. It was that kind of thing. He came in with the Jordans and I remember just standing for about an hour. Just like, this is the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen”.
The 39-year-old admitted that it was probably the reason why he started his own brand. He grew up in Chicago, he loved Jordan, and so decided to give it a try.

Wade also released his memoir ‘Dwyane’ some time ago, which was also influenced greatly by Jordan’s book ‘Rare Air’. Both books provide the regular fan an insight into their lives, filled with unseen pictures of both icons. “I remember getting Michael Jordan’s Rare Air book. And I remember just like being able to see things about my favorite player that I’ve never been able to see before,” Wade said, admitting that the book helped humanize the six-time NBA Champion.
