Stephen Curry is regarded by many as the greatest shooter of all-time in the NBA. Curry has revolutionized the NBA by inspiring teams to utilize the three-pointers more often. However, it wasn’t easy for the 33-year-old guard, as he wasn’t very tall in his youth days and not as athletic as other players.

Steph Curry has won 3 championships in his career, all with the Warriors. The 6’2″ guard has been with the Warriors since being drafted by them in 2009. Steph’s father, Dell Curry, spent 16 seasons in the NBA, playing for five different teams. Many would think that it would have been easier for Curry to make it to the NBA.

However, Curry’s path to the NBA wasn’t easy, as everyone feels. Curry wasn’t very tall in his youth days and not very athletic as others at that age. Steph recently admitted that he was an underdog in his youth days, but believed in his shooting abilities.

Stephen Curry opens up on being the smallest one on the court in his childhood

Curry recently appeared in the 1st episode of ‘Range Talk‘. Curry can be seen playing golf in the show and answering some questions related to his life and career. During the show, he was asked about being underrated. To this, Curry explained his struggles from his childhood.

“Well, I kind of knew I was underrated from the jump,” Curry said.

“Just because when I started playing basketball when I was nine and I played upon the tenant of the team. And when I tell you like I was the smallest dude on the court. Like I was scrawny, skinny, short, but I knew I could shoot. So I knew I belonged out there in my own head. I didn’t pass the eye test at that point and I heard it wasn’t just my own.”

He added, “I had a little growth spurt when I got to college. But I always kept that in my DNA. I had to earn everything I got. I had to outwork people, I had to outsmart people on the court. Because I couldn’t just physically dominate you and do little stuff like that.”

Having a parent who has played more than a decade of basketball in the NBA does not really guarantee success. However, Curry worked hard and managed to make it to the NBA. Not just this, he is now among the best players in the league and is on the run for this season’s MVP.
