Three games into the 2021-22 NBA regular, the Los Angeles Lakers are at a 1-2 win-loss record. Their last win was against the Memphis Grizzlies (121-118), secured after two consecutive losses. However, right after their first win of the season, the team might have to tackle the San Antonio Spurs in their next game without LeBron James.

James—who scored 19 points against the Grizzlies—is the most important player in the Lakers team. With two losses to begin their season, a second win remains important for the Lakers. However, given his recent injury, James’ status for the game remains uncertain.

Will LeBron James play against the San Antonio Spurs?

According to recent reports, James has been listed as questionable for the upcoming Lakers-Spurs clash. The game is scheduled to take place on October 26, 8:30 PM EST at the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas. Unfortunately for the Lakers, James is not the only player they might be missing.

Earlier, James was stated to be probable for the game. However, due to his sore right ankle, James’ inclusion is now questionable. The 36-year-old suffered from the injury during Sunday’s game. With James’ health being a top priority, the Lakers should look to rest their star if he is not at 100%.

Their next game would be against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday (EST). Depending on the severity, James could be rested for both games. Having said that, the Lakers will look to bring James back safely and swiftly. Looking at last year’s record, the Lakers season ended up going downhill after James injured his right ankle. Naturally, any ankle injury will be worrisome to the team and its fans.

Lakers starting lineup

With James listed as questionable and Wayne Ellington out (hamstring), the Lakers could have Carmelo Anthony and Malik Monk start in their stead. It could also mean more on-court time for rookie Austin Reaves. Russell Westbrook, Anthony Davis, and Kent Bazemore should start as usual. The team, however, will be without a proper small forward till James returns.

While James’ presence with the team remains integral, the Lakers will have Davis and Westbrook to lead the team. Carmelo Anthony scored team-high 28 points against the Grizzlies and can be counted on again. Despite James’ status remaining uncertain, the Lakers are favourites to win this game.

The Spurs, on their end, have also lost two of the three games they have played. A loss against the Lakers would hand them their third straight defeat this season.
