The 2003 draft class produced some incredible superstars for the league like Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, but arguably the two of the best talents from the draft LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony are still going strong in the league.

While LeBron has continued to be dominant and has continued to be the face of the league, Melo’s career has had his ups and downs but the forward has become a great spark plug off the bench.

After competing against one another for years, the duo are finally playing with each other as Melo signed a veteran minimum with the Lakers. With a star studded roster, it is safe to say this is Melo’s probable last chance to have a shot at the NBA championship.

LeBron James explains how unique of a scorer Carmelo Anthony is

Although the Lakers had a pre-season to forget, many expected the team to make a good start to their season. But their dismal run continued in the first two games as they fell into a 0-2 start. For their third game against the high-flying Memphis Grizzlies, Lakers knew they had to put on a special display.

While they boast three probable MVP candidates in Bron, AD and Westbrook, it was Melo who showed his real class. Scoring 28 points and shooting 6 of his attempted 8 three pointers, the former Knicks’ forward led the Lakers in scoring. He even scored some clutch shots in the closing moments of the game and ultimately led the Lakers to a 121-118 victory.

Given how impressive Melo’s offensive display was LeBron James commented on the same. In a presser LBJ explained why Melo is one of the most unique players in the NBA ever. “Melo’s game is unique in his own right. He’s done it at all facets of the game in all positions…. One of the best iso guys we have in our league.”

He added, “What’s always been his mark is his footwork. Either off the dribble or before the dribble, being able to create space with quick twitch feet his shot is one of the most beautiful releases I’ve seen in NBA history.”

James also explained how all-round of a scorer Melo really was. “He’s down at all facets, the mid-range, the low post, the bucket and free throws obviously. He’s a unique player…. There’s nobody that kind of I would say reminds me of him.”

Melo certainly will be a key player for the Lakers this season. His performance against the Grizzlies indicates his role in the team as a spark plug off the bench. Given his incredible scoring prowess, the veteran will be key if starters underperform. Will Melo win his first title this season?
