Chicago Bulls dominated the NBA during the 90s when they won six championships. While Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen were both crucial to the Bulls’ two three-peats, Jordan won the Finals MVP in all the championships the Bulls won. Unfortunately, as per Pippen, he didn’t receive enough credit for this contribution.

Pippen spent most of his career with the Bulls. In fact, the Bulls have also retired his no. 33 jersey. It was at the Bulls where he achieved the most – both individually and as a team. However, being the teammate of the legendary Michael Jordan, he was always starved for the spotlight.

Pippen has recently been in news for openly criticizing Jordan. He took several shots at MJ in his latest memoir, Unguarded. Pippen revealed in his memoir that he didn’t share a close relationship with Jordan off the court. Famous Bulls broadcaster and former player, Stacey King, has come in defense of Pippen and admitted that he doesn’t get enough credit.

Stacey King comes in the defense of Scottie Pippen

Stacey King, who played with Pippen for five seasons in Chicago, has come out in the latter’s defense. King admitted that Kareem and Jordan deserve applause for changing the game, but Pippen should also be acknowledged for the style of play he brought to the NBA.

“You talk about people who changed the game and how people play today,” said Stacey King.

“So you look at Wilt Chamberlain. Wilt Chamberlain changed the game. Kareem (Abdul-Jabbar) changed the game. Michael changed the game. Scottie doesn’t get the credit for his role in changing the game. Scottie’s tree, for how he played, has the Grant Hills of the world, the Kevin Durants.”

“You know these guys who can defend, they can score. They can rebound, assist. There’s been a ton of players that have come along that are in that Scottie Pippen point forward mode.”

Indeed, Pippen made a lot of difference on the court for the Bulls. Jordan was the best at that time, there’s no doubt about that. But without Pippen, the Bulls would have been a totally different side.

Many would call him the Robin to the Batman (Jordan). However, Pippen was more than that. It’s true that he couldn’t win a championship without Jordan, but he was just one Hue Hollins foul away from reaching the 1994 conference finals.
