“Let’s Get On a Call”: Celtics Veteran Recruited Dennis Schroder in Unique Fashion

Before every NBA season begins, every team tries to make changes in their rosters that might help bring them desired league championship. Every season there are some transfers which are expected and some which surprise everyone. This time around, we saw Dennis Schroder move to the Boston Celtics.

The Celtics are trying to win, and Schroder might help them do so in the long run. However, as per reports, Al Horford was the one who helped recruit Schroder for the team.

Even though it was ultimately Schroder’s decision to sign with the Celtics, Horford did help steer him in that direction. Here’s a detailed look at how Schroder ended up signing with the Celtics.

How did Al Horford convince Dennis Schroder to sign with the Celtics?

As per reports, Horford contacted Schroder over the summer. Learning that the Celtics were a team the 28-year-old could sign with, Horford needed to make sure he signed with them. “Let’s get on a call,” Horford said, according to Schroder. “And talk about the Boston Celtics”. 

“You’re going to have a big year here,” Horford added, letting Schroder know that the Celtics need him. “Because we know your value and we know how to put you in place to be successful”.

The NBA veteran assured Schroder that his ‘hard-nosed’ style would suit well in Boston. In LA, he had to suppress his game, which won’t be needed with the Celtics. In the end, we all know that Schroder ended up signing that one-year $5,890,000 contract with the Celtics.

How well will Schroder fit in with the Celtics?

Of course, Horford having played with Schroder, and this was a reason behind the signing. “One big reason I chose the Boston Celtics was because of him,” Schroder admitted. Moreover, Schroder seems like he will play well with the entire team. For Horford, Schroder can offer much more to the Celtics than he did to the Lakers.

“Of course when you play with two of the best players in the world, it’s kind of tough to bring your game,” Schroder said. “And of course they said to me, Dennis, just do your thing. But sometimes it fits. And sometimes your game doesn’t fit too well.” Though Schroder scored well enough with the Lakers, he questioned if he did really fit in.

The upcoming NBA season will begin on October 19 EST, the Celtic’s first game will be against the New York Knicks.
