Russell Westbrook: “It’s the Same Question After Every Game We Lose: ‘How Long Is It Going to Take?’ The Answer Is ‘We Don’t Know’”

The much-touted LA Lakers team has failed to live up to expectations so far in the NBA season. Built up as potential champions, the team has a negative win-loss ration right now. During such a run of form, the media’s questions for the athletes begin to look repetitive. Accordingly, Russell Westbrook sounded impatient during a recent press conference.

After the humiliating 130-108 loss to the Boston Celtics, in a game where Westbrook visibly struggled, he still spoke to the media. And of course, for the sake of the Lakers fans, a reporter asked him when he expects things to change at the Staples Center. And this apparently ticked him off; this is what he said to the reporter during his press conference.

Russ is clearly tired of being asked similar questions about this team's issues after every loss:
"It's the same question after every game we lose: 'How long is it going to take?' The answer is 'we don't know.'"

While the anger is understandable, the direction in which he directed it was not. Players have some responsibility towards the fans who are curious about things in the locker room after losses. Since we consider the Lakers a super team, it should not come as a surprise that they are under the microscope.

Especially since at one point they were the favorites to win it all from the Western Conference. Moreover, they have at least 5 or even 6 future Hall of Famers on their roster, including two former MVPs.

What does this loss mean for Russell Westbrook, the Lakers and Celtics?

With the return of LeBron James, the Lakers still struggled tonight due to exceptional defensive plays from the Celtics. However, the Lakers took a lot of rushed shots and made inefficient decisions. For them, the primary takeaway from this game is that they need to work on their three-point shooting. Anthony Davis has consistently struggled with that this season. And Westbrook has struggled with that probably his entire career.

From the Celtics, this was an impressive performance despite the absence of Jaylen Brown. Lakers-reject Dennis Schröder balled out tonight and locked down the one brought in to replace him (Westbrook). Tatum nearly had a 40 point performance and ended with 37 points and 11 rebounds.

For LeBron and Westbrook, the game is another reminder that they quickly need to work out how to perform together. Otherwise, the results could be disastrous for the Lakers.
