Who hasn’t heard about the back story and controversy surrounding the 2009 championship game. The game wasn’t that exciting for Cleveland Cavaliers fans. Continuing on the history of that championship when Cavaliers fans were disappointed after losing to the Orlando Magic. The Cavaliers lost to the Magic in the Conference finals of 2009. Their disappointment was not mainly due to their loss, but rather because they couldn’t see LeBron James face Kobe Bryant in the finals. If it had occurred, it would have arguably been the most-watched NBA match in history.

A total of 22 games had been played between the two players in NBA history. In which James took the win 16-6 against Bryant.

Consequently, nearly a decade after this incident, Joe Burrow tweeted about his feelings after the 2009 championship. Everyone knows how much Burrow loves James and the Cavaliers. In his caption, he says, If you still have hatred for these two, then you’re an OG Cavs fan. Somehow turned into Kobe and MJ in the conference finals.”

It disappointed the Cavaliers fans not to see Kobe Bryant take on LeBron James

Burrow, the Cincinnati Bengals quarterback, is one step away from achieving a victory that could change the history of the franchise. A thrilling victory on Sunday secured their Super Bowl berth. A 27-24 overtime walk-off win was great news for the Bengals after they overcame an 18-point deficit. Burrow became the fifth player selected over the 30 seasons to participate in a conference championship. Several athletes from different sports congratulated him on his achievement. Some NBA players also offered their congratulations.

The Orlando Magic congratulated Burrow while retweeting his old tweet with his comment on the 2009 championship. The team wished him luck at the Super Bowl. Burrow’s tweet was pretty intense. At that time, it was on every Cavaliers’ fan’s lips.

Kobe Bryant’s iconic 2008-09 season

Bryant made an impressive 17-2 start to the season of the 2008-2009 championship. At that point, the Lakers were performing well and had a higher chance of winning the championship. Bryant was one of the best players on the Lakers as he averaged 28.3 points per game.

In addition, he helped the Lakers to win the best record in the Western Conference with a 65-17 record.

As for James, he lead the team extremely well. He contributed to setting the record at 66-16 in the Eastern Conference. As he was the first Cavalier to win NBA MVP.  James averaged 28.4 points, 7.6 rebounds, 7.2 assists, 1.7 steals, and 1.2 blocks per game during that year.
