A very happy birthday to DeMar DeRozan! The NBA veteran turns 31 today, and he’s accomplished a lot in his career so far. DeRozan spent nine years with the Toronto Raptors before he was traded to the Spurs in exchange for Kawhi Leonard and Danny Green. He’s still respected in Toronto and a former teammate has posted a heartwarming message to the four-time All-Star on the occasion of his birthday.

The Raptors selected DeRozan as the ninth pick in the 2009 NBA draft. He settled in with the team pretty quickly and established himself as a prominent member of the franchise in a few years. When Kyle Lowry joined the team in 2012, a strong bond developed between the two players.

Lowry and DeRozan suited up for the Raptors and endured many highs and lows during their time with the team. However, one of the NBA’s greatest friendships was broken up when DeRozan had to leave Toronto and join the Spurs. Lowry also commented on DeRozan’s departure last year, and said

“One day we’ll retire, we’ll be hanging out on the porch, drinking lemonade together one day. That’s what you cherish about the friendship.”

Raptors star Kyle Lowry posts a touching message to DeRozan on his birthday

DeRozan and Kyle Lowry stood strong for the Raptors, helping them build a strong team over the years. While fans may credit Kawhi for coming in and winning the maiden title for the franchise, it is not entirely the case.

Lowry took to Instagram to post a hilarious and moving message to DeRozan on his 31st birthday. The six-time All-Star revealed how DeRozan would mock him for being old and welcomed him into the club. 

“You old now fool. The big 3-1 today !!! But you here to say you 31 and I’m proud and happy to apart of this journey you’ve been on.. love you my brother!!! Lowry wrote, in appreciation of DeMar DeRozan.

Kyle Lowry is 34 now, three years older than DeRozan. The duo formed a special bond in the six years that they played together. Will we see these two reuniting in the same team again in the NBA?
