French striker Michy Batshuayi helped his team Borussia Dortmund pip Atalanta at the Westfalenstadion. He banged home the winner in the 91st minute after grabbing an equaliser nearly half an hour earlier. It was an eventful day for former Chelsea players as Andre Schurrle who put Dortmund ahead 30 minutes after kick-off. Atlanta brought themselves back in the game with two goals from Josip Ilicic.

Then Batshuayi came to the rescue and hammered in another 2 for the Bundesliga side. With this, the 24-year old has scored five goals in three games since being loaned by Chelsea. Schurrle was able to control Lukasz Piszczek’s pass and scored his second goal of his Europa League campaign.

Meanwhile, Marco Reus came close moments earlier but his low shot went wide. Schurrle was the one who set up the attack and the pair looked threatening. But Atalanta were not done yet. They impressed many by finishing ahead of Lyon and Everton in Group E. Ilicic smoothly controlled Leonardo Spinazzola’s long pass and curled the ball into the far corner.

Five minutes later, the Slovenian striker then scored a brace with his fourth goal of the competition. But then it was Batsman’s time to shine and the Atalanta keeper Etrit Berisha was left clutching at thin air as the long-range effort flew past him.

Michy Batshuayi had World Cup winner Martio Gotze to thank as the latter was on hand to set him up with the winner. This 3-2 win means that Dortmund have a slender advantage heading into the second leg of the Europa League. Batshuayi has been particularly strong for whichever team that he plays for and will be a valuable asset. The 24-year old will also be a valuable player for the national team during the World Cup later this year.
