“Be at My Best for Ukraine”: Elina Svitolina Vows To Leave Her Legacy at Billie Jean King Cup

Former World No. 3 Elina Svitolina is currently in Chornomorsk in Ukraine, competing at the Billie Jean King Cup. She is looking to guide her nation towards glory at the venue. The event is taking place on clay courts and will be fought between Ukraine and Japan in the competitions Play-Offs. 

The current World No. 5 Elina Svitolina will be headlining the event. The 26-year-old athlete is determined to achieve success for her nation and wishes to be remembered as a true warrior for Ukraine. She dreams of doing wonders for the country and has always given her 100%.

The 2018 World Tour Finals winner stated, “I want to be remembered as a fighter for my country. I want to win everything that I play and I always try to do my best and be at my best for Ukraine. We have a very strong team and, for me, it is all about team spirit.”

Elina Svitolina is comfortable around the Ukrainian squad

She also reflected on the strength and depth of the Ukrainian squad. The bond shared between the players is good and warm. In a team, it is important to have all members on the same page. She wishes to be an influence on the younger players and wants to help them improvise their game. 

Revealing her intention, Svitolina further added, “We have very good and warm relationships with each other and that is very important. It is also important for me to be helpful to young players and to share my experience and try to help them improve their game.”

Elina Svitolina lost in the quarterfinal during the initial tournaments in 2021

Speaking of Elina’s current season, she began her season at the WTA Abu Dhabi Open 2021. However, she lost in the quarterfinal. Later, she competed at the WTA Melbourne and exited in the quarterfinal rounds. 

Her next stop was at the Australian Open 2021, but she failed to go deep and lost in the fourth round. Her last tournament was in Miami, at the season’s first WTA 1000 event of the season.

At the moment, she is representing Ukraine at the Billie Jean King Cup, previously known as the Fed Cup. She won her first match against Japan’s Chihiro Muramatsu, giving her nation the early lead. If Ukraine wins this round, they will make it into the last eight teams.
