Since he came onto the professional tour in 1998, Roger Federer has picked up 20 Grand Slams and has also won 103 titles on the ATP Tour. His elegant strokes, his apparent effortlessness on court and his all-court game are some of the qualities that have made him one of the most popular players.

The one aspect of Roger Federer’s game that has left people in awe of him is – his longevity. Even at the age of 37 he managed to reach the finals of the 2019 Wimbledon when people much younger than him could not make it.

In a recent interview Roger Federer revealed what all it took to stay healthy year after year, he said, “I practised correctly, wisely, carefully planned with my fitness coach and my tennis coaches throughout my career.

I have definitely gotten lucky when I was 18 or 20 like what Sascha (Alexander Zverev) is now because I was not the most professional, I was nearly not as professional as Sascha was at his age and I think I got lucky to come through that period unharmed.”

The Swiss star added,“I have had my back issue, knee issue, I also had problems besides the court but for the most part my happy spirit, my happy attitude has also kept me away from problems. It’s very important that I have had the balance between the matches and my other life, my friends, family and all that.

And understanding that in a way the tennis life is not the real life, the real life is at home, where I have my roots, where my parents and friends are, so I think all of that goes into staying injury-free to some extent for me anyway. But I have worked, I feel really hard, to stay injury-free, it wasn’t a gift like everybody think it was.”

Roger Federer has had an absolutely amazing career and it doesn’t look like he wants to stop. He is able to compete at the highest level and will be looking to win a few more Majors before he puts a close on his illustrious career.
