Switzerland’s number one tennis player, Belinda Bencic, has not played much tennis this season. The last time she stepped on court was at the Australian Open when she fell short in the third-round. She withdrew herself from the French Open this year due to an injury she suffered on her right arm.

The former World No. 4 also pulled out of the US Open this year. She was a semifinalist at Flushing Meadows the previous year in 2019. Bencic hails from Switzerland and has partnered with Roger Federer in the past. The pair have won the Hopman Cup in 2018 and 2019, respectively.

Speaking on this issue, Belinda said, “Difficult to say why it worked better for the men. We also played many tournaments in China at the end of the year. That certainly didn’t help. But I understand the organizers that in this situation they think twice about the risk they want to take.”

Bencic further stated, “I would like communication to improve and we players to be better informed. The situation is not easy for the WTA either. I understand. But it’s now the end of November and we still don’t know exactly how and where the tour will resume. That makes planning very difficult for us.”
