Fedor Emelianenko is a few weeks away from his 44th birthday. He has competed in mixed martial arts promotions all over the world and was to have a farewell tour before the coronavirus pandemic stopped events in its tracks.
Now, the fighter addressed a potential farewell and hinted at a rematch, which is a decade in the making.
‘The Last Emperor’ appeared at Bellator’s pre-event media interaction. Here, reporters questioned him regarding fighting Fabricio Werdum again. Via an interpreter, Emelianenko said, “For myself yes I would like to fight him.”

However, he admitted that the final decision rests in the hands of Scott Coker, Bellator MMA and the fans.
“Whether that’s a fight fans are interested in seeing or Bellator is interested in putting on, I don’t know.”
The duo clashed at Strikeforce in 2010, where Coker served as President before shifting to Bellator. At the event, ‘Vai Cavalo’ submitted his opponent to hand him only a second career loss.
Coker may see great potential in the aging warriors colliding, as this can attract the attention of casual and hardcore fans. However, for the fight to materialize, Werdum must sign with Bellator.
Can we see Fabricio Werdum vs Fedor Emelianenko?
The Brazilian veteran is a free agent and has remained coy about his future. Moves to ONE Championship or Bellator MMA will not be surprising, as there are mega rematches on the cards in both promotions. Werdum has beaten ONE’s heavyweight champion, Brandon Vera, too.

The win will hold him in good stead, as promotions may see him as someone who can compete at the highest level and not a fighter looking to bow out on nostalgia.
Emelianenko has doubts regarding the match. But should Werdum close out his career at Bellator MMA, the long-awaited rematch will be high on Scott Coker’s wishlist.
