Ben Askren Wants the Rematch With Jorge Masvidal : ” It Won’t Happen Again”

Ben Askren faced the first loss in his mixed martial arts career not so long ago in the hands of Jorge Masvidal. Going into that fight, Askren had already said a lot of things about Masvidal in the process of fight promotion, which made the loss for Askren more bitter.

Masvidal came out of his corner with a flying knee and cought Askren, who was shooting for a takedown. That was the only sequence in that fight as Askren got knocked out in 5 seconds. That loss did not only kill all the hype surrounding Askren coming into UFC, it also made the path to title for Askren that much harder.

Askren was one win away from a potential title shot until he lost to Masvidal. Well, Masvidal is fighting Nate Diaz now and Askren is fighting Damian Maia. hwoever, there is no love lost between these two.

Ben Askren wants the rematch against Jorge Masvidal. He never took anything away from Masvidal by calling that knock out a fluke or a lucky shot. However, Askren is confident that it will never happen again.

In his recent tweet, Askren said:

I got hit by 1 errant shot. lesson learned and won’t happen again!

Replying to a fan’s comment on Masvidal knocking him out, Askren said:

“I’m not disingenuous enough to say “he got lucky” but it won’t happen again. cant’ wait for my path to cross again.”

There is nothing more Askren wants right now considering his leagacy than a win that a win over Masvidal. Ben Askren was considered one of the best welterweight to ever compete in the sports with an unbeaten record before the Masvidal fight. He wiped out ONE FC and Bellator to become the champion in both the organization before taking retirement. However, he comes out of retirement, beats Robbie Lawler in UFC in a controversial decision and then gets knocked out by Masvidal. That leaves a big stain on Askren’s legacy for sure.

George St Pierre is consider the best fighter to eve compete inside the octagon. However, he has lost a few fight in his career too. He has lost against Matt Hughes and Matt Serra. But he avenged those losses going forward. It’s safe to say that Askren needs that win over Masvidal to even come into the argument of best welterweight in history.

Well, the Damian Maia fight is a good way to start the journey to the top of the mountain again. Damian Maia is considered the best grappler in the UFC history and a win over Maia will catapault Askren again into the mix of top fighters in the division.
