Alexander Zverev has often been compared to Roger Federer and has been named as the next big thing in tennis. However, the lofty expectations seemed to be too much for Zverev’s tiny shoulders. So now Zverev is back to the basics, taking one step at a time and not trying to be on top of the world all at once. “I feel like I’m a better player. I feel like I’m still competing for the best and biggest tournaments”, said Alexander Zverev.

You know, kind of solidifying that I am a Top 5 player this year, and obviously with Novak [Djokovic] coming back, winning two Grand Slams, and other players like [Juan Martin] del Potro playing great again, it was a much tougher year, for sure”, continued Zverev. “I’ve still got big tournaments ahead of me. I qualified for London, which is positive. There are still positive things”, he added.

Zverev recently joined his wagon with Ivan Lendl, who was seen in Beijing with Zverev. However, Lendl was absent from Zverev’s camp at the Shanghai Masters 1000. “He doesn’t want to leave Connecticut most of the time,” said Zverev. “He just has some sort of small wrist surgery that he has to do, and then he’ll be back in Europe, in London, for sure.” He also added with a smile on his face,“Not from tennis. No, that’s his golf. He’s playing too much.”

Ivan Lendl, for those who do not know, apart from his illustrious career, has had equal success with the Brit Andy Murray.

“He has done a ton of coaching at every level on the young players, so it’s a relationship I am looking forward to. “He is a very positive guy, he always encourages you to see the positive side of things and be aware of. He always explains, he always asks questions”, said Zverev speaking about Lendl. “I think it’a good style, a good personality. It fits my personality.”
