British tennis star Emma Raducanu has been the rising star of the WTA Tour this year. The manner in which she won the US Open this year has been an incredible story for the world. A relatively unknown player before Wimbledon this year, Raducanu grabbed all the headlines with her unprecedented run in New York.

Recently, Emma Raducanu received some advice from former great and the last British female player to win a Grand Slam title, Virginia Wade. She warned that there are other players on the rise and the Emma is now a target.

While speaking on Emma’s rise in the game, Wade had a few words of caution. She stated, “There are an awful lot of very good players and she’s got a target on her now. They all desperately want to beat her. She’s very smart, intelligent, well-balanced, serious. She really applies herself. She problem solves on the court. We don’t need to expect anything spectacular in the next few years. Give her a couple of good, steady, learning years.”

Emma Raducanu is still young and will learn with time

Wade won the Wimbledon Championships in 1977. She complimented the teenager on her smartness, intellect, and composure. However, she feels that people should give her time and space as there is still a lot more to learn for the 19-year-old star.

The 76-year-old added, “Getting all these endorsements can turn these young players’ heads. You’ve got to remember you got [sponsorship deals] because you’re a good tennis player, and not for any other reason. So you’d better stay being a good tennis player.”

Coming to tennis, Raducanu came to prominence towards the mid-season this year. When she made it to the second week of the Wimbledon Championships, she gained attention due to her young age. However, the teenager had to unfortunately retire midway through her contest.

Soon after, she won the US Open in her first attempt. Emma came from qualifying and went all the way to the trophy without dropping a single set, an achievement which sounds unbelievable as many times as you read it. Now that the season is over, we wish her all the best for the upcoming 2022 season. All eyes will be on her when she steps on the courts once again.
