Have you ever wondered what happens when a superhero’s son becomes obsessed with a rival star? Buckle up, because Paul Rudd—aka Marvel’s very own Ant-Man—is about to spill the beans! In the latest episode of Diggin’ Deep, Rudd chats with hosts Eric Hosmer and Peter Moylan about his unshakeable love for the Kansas City Royals and his unforgettable experiences during their World Series triumphs.

But here’s where it gets interesting: Paul Rudd was so eager to share his love for the Royals that he and his son showed up in full Royals gear for his son’s Halloween party at school, ditching his iconic Ant-Man suit. After all, missing the Royals game at World Series 2015 was not an option. But the real twist came when his son introduced him to a new fandom. While the DC vs Marvel debate might seem like old news, it took on a fresh and entertaining spin in the Rudd household. What happened next?

A Halloween twist: Rudd’s son shows off quick wit
Paul Rudd and his son strolled down the bustling streets of New York, where Batman vs. Superman was the hot topic; a woman in a Batman costume walked by and cheerfully said, “Go Mets.” Without missing a beat, Rudd’s son, just a little kid, quickly responded with, “Go Superman.” Given who his father is, it’s no surprise that he had such a clever comeback. While they might not share the same baseball fandom, it’s clear they both have a sharp sense of humor, proving that the apple truly doesn’t fall far from the tree.

Not only was his father proud of his comeback, but in the viral video, we can see both of the baseball stars, Peter and Eric, laughing out loud and saying, “That’s my boy” After Paul’s son’s witty retort was against the woman praising another team. Why would he not do so? He is Paul Rudd’s son, and Paul Rudd’s relationship with the Royals goes back in time.

How Ant-Man got hooked on baseball?
In the same podcast, he shared another anecdote, his journey to baseball. Paul came to Kansas City when he was very young, and the first game he attended for Kansas City was in 1980, but what caught his heart was the game of 85. “I went again in ’85 for Game 6, which was famous for the controversial call. Since then, I’ve made it a point to attend every World Series the Royals have been in, including the ones in 2014 and 2015.”
Don’t think that his love for baseball took a backseat after he became a star as he admitted that, even while shooting Ant-Man in Atlanta, he made sure to catch Royals games whenever he wasn’t on set. Paul Rudd is not just a fan of watching the game; he’s truly passionate about playing it, too. This year, he showed off his baseball chops at the Big Slick event, joining a star-studded lineup including Jason Sudeikis, Rob Riggle, Eric Stonestreet, David Koechner, and Heidi.

With the Kansas City Royals performing strongly this year and holding a promising chance of making it to the playoffs—and perhaps even the World Series—there’s plenty of excitement in the air. Given Paul Rudd’s deep-rooted connection to the team and his history of attending their World Series games, it would be interesting to see whether we might once again find him in the stands cheering them on.
