Rising tennis sensation Bianca Andreescu is flattered by her comparison with four-time singles Grand Slam winner Kim Clijsters. The US Open 2019 champion has been often praised for her resemblance with Clijsters. However, why Andreescu reminds everyone of the Belgian?

Tennis coach and TV analyst Darren Cahill stated that the 19-year-old Canadian refresh his memory of Clijsters. The teenager has impressed many tennis experts with her accomplishments at such a young age.

“It’s amazing because Kim was my childhood idol”: Kim Clijsters

It’s amazing because Kim was my childhood idol. My coach used to tell her all the time that I remember her,” she said in an interview with Pal Springs Life.

“I watched her because of her style of play. She was so different from the other players and she had a complete game. She was very strong mentally, physically and tactically,” she added.

Earlier, Caroline Wozniacki also praised Andreescu for her similarities like Clijsters. However, Andreescu is often compared with former World No.1 because she moves well and she can stretch out and get to some balls. She also possesses an aggressive game and as the ability to produce difficult angles. Furthermore, Andreescu prefers the forehand just like Kim.

Can Andreescu walk on the footmarks of Clijsters?

The rapid rise of the 19-year-old hasn’t gone unnoticed. However, can she repeat the results produced by the 36-year-old and be even successful than her?

Clijsters is a three-time US Open champion. A milestone that has been achieved by only six other women in the Open Era. Her first title in Flushing Meadows was back in 2005 when she was just 21. On the other hand, Bianca clinched the US Open title at the age of 19.

Andreescu is currently dealing with a knee injury and is hoping to join the WTA Tour at the Indian Wells Masters this month. She is the defending champion this year, in the event. However, she is yet to play a competitive match this season after injury forced her to pull out of the Australian Open 2020.

Clijsters had also struggled with knee injuries in her career. However, she fought through all the injuries in her life. Furthermore, she came after over seven years in retirement to return to professional tennis last month. It will be interesting to see how Andreescu comes out of her injury and get back on her groove.
