What is worse is that this puts her hopes of participating at Indian Wells in serious jeopardy. She is the defending champion at the WTA Premier Mandatory tournament. The only bright side for her fans was that she might be able to make her return on a positive note.

This is the fourth major tournament that she is missing after the Australian Open, Fed Cup and the Dubai Duty-Free Tennis Championships. She also missed out on the year opening ASB Classic where she had been the runner up in 2019.
