Bianca Andreescu Risks Her Career Before Retiring Against Karolina Pliskova at WTA Finals 2019

World Number fourBianca Andreescu retired from the WTA Finals 2019 due to a knee injury while she was in action against the Number two seed, Karolina Pliskova. Before playing the match, she was facing issues due to her torn medial or lateral meniscus, despite those fitness setbacks, the Canadian risked an injury and decided to play her match in Shenzhen, China. 

Playing with a torn medial meniscus a risky. It leads aggravation of the knee injury, unbearable pain and extends the recovery period of the affected individual. This decision of Andreescu could have led a serious dilemma in her sporting career and that might have caused a hindrance to her professional tennis. 

The Czech player, Pliskova held the first set 6-3 and later, Andreescu pulled out from the match after battling against the Wolrd Number two tennis player for 51 minutes.

“My knee twisted, I heard a crack, she validated me that it’s my meniscus. I can’t bend my knee at all. It’s cracking every time I walk and it friggin’ hurts,” Andreescu addressed her coach Bruneau during the match in Shenzhen.

During the match, Andreescu was struggling to hit winners and considering her inability to move on the hard-court, Pliskova dominated the play by exploiting her delicacy. 

The Canadian star, Bianca Andreescu had phenomenal during the month of March this season and later she continued her similar pattern of winning matches during the North American summer. 

On the other court of Shenzhen, Simona Halep (who earlier defeated Andreescu) lost to the defending champion, Elina Svitolina from Ukraine. Now, Pliskova and Halep will play each other for the second spot in the Purple Group.

On Tuesday, Naomi Osaka announced her withdrawal from the WTA Finals 2019 due to a shoulder injury. The Japanese did not lose a match after her US Open 2019 defeat to Belinda Bencic.
