Swiss tennis star Roger Federer was up against Canadian upcoming talent Felix Auger-Aliassime in the second round of the ATP Halle Open 2021. It was their first match and the Swiss ace lost the match 6-4 3-6 2-6, which lasted for a little over 100 minutes.

Set 1: Vintage Roger Federer passes the first test

The Canadian player opened proceedings and took a 1-0 lead. In the sixth game, he had two opportunities to break Roger Federer but the experience of the Swiss superstar helped him overcome the obstacle.

In the very next game, Felix Auger-Aliassime was broken by Federer as he struck down a beautiful backhand down the line, which helped him get the upper hand in the set.

The former World No. 1 player then consolidated the break and was sitting comfortably with a healthy lead. While Federer was serving for the opening set, Felix had a chance to break him again but similar to the previous game, Roger handled the nerves and sealed the set in his favor 6-4.

It took approximately 40 minutes to draw the first blood. Although the Swiss ace won fewer points than his opponent, he still managed to come on top. In the end, the one break proved enough for Roger to turn the set in his favor.

Set 2: Felix Auger-Aliassime arrives late for the party

Similar to the previous set, Auger-Aliassime opened the set by holding serve. Things were going steady until the fourth game when Federer was 0-40 down but like many-a-times brought himself out of trouble.

In the sixth game, Felix got the break to give himself the upper hand in the set at 4-2. After 38 minutes, he served for the set and held the service game with ease, taking the set 6-3.

Set 3: Roger Federer fails to find a route to victory

In the following set, Roger was broken in the opening game. The Canadian took his chance in the fourth opportunity during the game. The momentum was with Auger-Aliassime and he consolidated the break, taking a 2-0 lead.

To make matters worse for the Swiss, Felix broke him for the second time during the set and was sitting comfortably with a 3-0 lead. In less than 15 minutes into the set, Federer was down 0-4 in the set. Felix won the set 6-2.

After winning this match, he has booked a spot in the quarterfinal. It will be interesting to see how far he goes in this tournament.
