An acronym for ‘non-fungible token,’ NFT is a digital item that is completely unique and can be exchanged like money. Hence, anything from sports trading cards, paintings to videos can be sold as a digital token.

Ohanian’s special gift for Serena Williams

In an interview with CNBC, Ohanian boasted about having collected the world’s largest Serena Williams’ card collection. Interestingly, the Reddit co-founder owns a hundred such cards and also posted the picture of his favorite one on his Instagram account.

“It’s actually my biggest personal investment. I candidly have been collecting what is now the world’s largest Serena Williams’ card collection over the year and a half,” said Ohanian.

Having made a personal investment in NFTs, Ohanian revealed that he tried gifting the digital collectibles cards to Serena, but she wanted some jewelry instead.

However, in a light-hearted manner, Ohanian contended that since Serena has observed the NFT market’s value go up in the last year, the tennis star has been happy with the gifts received.

“At first, I was gifting these things to her and initially, she was like could just get me maybe some jewelry. One the last year and a half she’s seen the efficiency in the market take hold and the values go up. She’s been pretty happy with my gifting,” added Ohanian.

Meanwhile, Williams will play next at the Miami Open, which starts next week. The American has won the Miami Open a record eight times; however, she hasn’t gone past the fourth round at the tournament since 2016.
