Iga Swiatek stormed into the finals of the Indian Wells Open after beating Marta Kostyuk in straight sets. She’ll now be facing Maria Sakkari for the Indian Wells trophy. Currently ranked No. 1 in the world, She has held the position for a total of 94 weeks. She is on her way to breaking the record of former American pro, Lindsay Davenport, as she was at the top for 98 weeks.

Commenting on the development, Davenport made some rather salty comments which brought her under fire from the fans. Let’s see what the fans had to say.

Davenport recently commented that Iga Swiatek is currently facing a challenging season. This did not sit well with the fans as stats clearly show that Swiatek is the only woman to clinch the Doha Masters title three consecutive times at the young age of 22 and is poised to surpass Davenport in weeks as World No. 1.

Getting to the fact of the matter, one fan introduced a seriously hilarious question to Davenport.

She wrote, “Bitter much?” summarizing all the comments and acknowledging Davenport’s bitterness.

Another fan displayed their happiness at Swiatek’s prospect of surpassing the former American pro in weeks as the No.1

Calling Davenport a ‘grandma’, the fan wrote, “Oh the way we will be celebrating day when Iga overtakes this grandma in total weeks as #1.”

One fan even satirized her, continuing the chain of teasing comments.

The fan wrote, “Lindsay’s 98 weeks is about to be broken by Iga in about 5 weeks. Poor Lindsay.” Comically acknowledging how ‘sad’ Davenport must be.

A fan hilariously tried to unearth the reason behind Davenport’s critical comment.

The fan commented, “I think she must’ve just eaten sour patch,” humorously revealing the reason behind Davenport being so sour.

Taking to the social media platform X, one fan acknowledged the fact that Davenport isn’t as critical of other players

The fan wrote, “It’s a pity that she isn’t as critical for other players, ” hinting towards Davenport’s remarks being often unfairly critical or biased against Iga Swiatek.

According to the fans, Davenport should be more graceful towards the current players. The fans believe that she should support and celebrate the rising stars of the game and not try to bring them down.

Lindsay Davenport says Iga Swiatek has a mental block.

This doesn’t seem to be the first time Davenport has been critical of Swiatek. Even earlier this year, she expressed that Swiatek has a mental block when it comes to playing at the Australian Open.

She said, “I think it really goes to show, when she won the US Open, she was so emotional right? Do you remember? She wasn’t comfortable playing in New York and she thought that was her greatest triumph. I don’t know if it’s something about playing in a hardcourt Major or what, but she has not played well in Australia,”

Sinking her teeth further into the criticism she adds, “I think that’s in her head now and she’s trying to talk herself out of it through this whole Australian swing saying ‘Oh no, I’m playing. I am feeling good.’ Really Danielle Collins had that [second round] match, right? And Iga being able to get through that.”

Iga Swiatek has won all her matches at the Indian Wells Open in straight sets, not losing even a single set. That’s a perfect run even for the highest standards of the game. Perhaps Davenport was way off the mark saying the Pole is having a “is having a tough season.” What are your thoughts?
