“I Was Almost Broke Fighting in MMA” – Former UFC Star Opens up on Pay Issues

Rachael Ostovich is a former UFC star who now competes for BKFC. Recently, she appeared for an interview where she revealed how she feels the Bare Knuckle is more lucrative than MMA.
Ostovich had a relatively short career in MMA. She started her MMA career in 2014 and has been with a few different promotions, including the UFC. Her last fight was in 2020. Unfortunately, she had lost 3 back-to-back fights and this might have made her think twice about her combat career. Ostovich has an MMA record of 4-6-0.
Hence, she switched over to Bare Knuckle and seems happy with her decision. Like any fighter, money is one of the aspects to have influenced her decision. Taking a lot of bodily damage and recovering from it isn’t cheap.

In a recent interview with MMA Junkie, Ostovich spoke about her MMA career as well as the monetary part of it. She revealed that she was going broke at a point in her career.
She said, “Right now BKFC is, it’s really hot right now and they’re, they pay me really good. So that’s where I’ll be if you know like and MMA is a lot…. It’s a lot, and I felt like I was almost going broke fighting in MMA.”
She continued, “So BKFC is where I’m at for right now and hopefully we can get on the same page.”
Ostovich also said that she was hoping to fight once more by the end of this year. However, that is not possible for her. Hence, she feels she might compete again during January end or mid of February, next year.
The fighter made her BKFC debut in July 2021 against Paige VanZant. Ostovich managed to win her debut bout. She has not fought since then and is on the sidelines, healing from the fight.
Why did Rachael Ostovich leave MMA?
It seems that Ostovich felt that she was being underpaid in MMA. This could be a potential reason for joining BKFC. It looks like the promotion is willing to pay the fighter comparatively more than UFC.

BKFC also gave Ostovich the opportunity to fight her former rival, VanZant. Thus, the fighter has decided to continue with the promotion for now. She is not closed off to MMA provided a good offer is made. In fact, she has still been getting offers from MMA, but none seems to impress her enough to make a return.
