Hollywood has been dysfunctional for the past few months. This was owing to the WGA (Writers Guild of America) and SAG-AFTRA (Screen Actors Guild—American Federation of Television and Radio Artists) strikes for better pay. While the WGA hit a deal with AMPTP (Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers) over a month ago, the SAG-AFTRA had to continue its course till now. But after 118 days, the strike will now conclude as the actors’ association constituting 160,000 members reached a tentative deal. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s sons, Joseph Baena and Patrick Schwarzenegger, are elated with the new development.

The eldest and youngest sons of Arnie, who followed their father’s acting footsteps, were vocal about their support of the strike since the start. Now, it is their time to rejoice as the SAG-AFTRA strike came to an end, much to everyone’s respite.

Taking to their Instagram accounts, the half-brothers shared the news with their followers. Patrick Schwarzenegger shared the new development and wrote: “LETS GO.” Joseph Baena, on the other hand, shared Deadline Hollywood’s detailed post about the strike’s conclusion in the Instagram story.

Deadline Hollywood media channel on Instagram shared, “The strike will be over as of 12:01 am PT November 9, we hear. The actors guild’s 17-member negotiating committee unanimously voted to recommend a tentative agreement to the SAG-AFTRA board.” The development comes four months after the Actors Guild joined the WGA on 14th July to fight the common cause of better paychecks and protection from striding encroachment of Artificial Intelligence in the creative arena.

Fran Drescher, the actors’ Union president, was elated with the victory as she said, “We did it!!!! The Billion+ USD Deal! 3X the last contract! New ground was broke everywhere! Ty sag aftra members for hanging in and holding out for this historic deal!” in a heartfelt Instagram post. But what does the new historic deal have to offer for the actors?

The use of AI by media giants and subpar pay conditions called for a double strike by the Writers and Actors Guild for the first time in the last six decades. Actors took to the streets, rallying for their rights as the production houses shut down their work. Even though the WGA signed a tentative deal in September, the dry spell in Hollywood didn’t end because the actors were still on strike.

The recent historic deal of SAG-AFTRA includes “minimum compensation increases, unprecedented provisions for consent and compensation that will protect members from the threat of AI,” as per the SAG-AFTRA’s X post. The additional benefits include a rise in pension and health caps and a first-ever streaming participation bonus.
