Chris Bumstead has been taking the limelight of bodybuilding ever since he came into the arena with a pro card at 21. CBum not only became a young IFBB pro but also stunned the judges with his physique after ranking 2nd in his first two Olympias. And while this was a great start to a storied career, CBum was only getting started. Because post-2019, when he truly came into his own, nobody has been able to compete with him. It’s 2023 and nobody has figured it out yet.

See, post 2019, Bumstead took over the arena by winning the title of Classic Physique 4 times. This year, he cemented his name as the 5-time champion in the Classic Physique division and made history. But even the GOATs of the game have brief moments of uncertainty. Bumstead too went through the same stress and adrenaline. He uploaded a video on YouTube as well describing his mindset and emotions before going up on stage. Even after all the turmoil and mental breakdowns, he concluded that bodybuilding was the most exciting sport.

Even then, in the end, after the pre-judging round was over and he came back to rest after showing off his incredible physique, he was glad for this career. He sat down, sighed in relief, and said, “All right, prejudging is done go to tension part out of the way a little bit.”

He then described that even with this stress the competition is exciting. CBum narrated, “The fun exciting part, the part where you feel more excitement more flutters in your stomach, more heart racing, and what it feels like to be alive. Honestly, one of the fun things about competing is very alive up there like the nerves the stress the final moment…” He also added, “One of the things I love about competing is, fu** stressful sometimes, and it’s a lot sometimes but it’s all worth it when you get to enjoy the final moment.”

Bumstead made headlines with his victory and in his Instagram post he talked about the idea of mental positivity. He wrote, “I always understood it would be a mental game to stay at the top and I was willing to do almost anything to be mentally strong enough. But I was not willing to sacrifice who I was to win.”

He reflected on the fact that the trophy was not the main reason for his elation but there was something else as well. He stated, “I am a hell of a lot more proud of who I was to win it. Who I became in the process of winning it. Champion mentality is the endless pursuit of being the best man I can be, regardless of if this trophy comes home with.”
