Veteran bodybuilder Jay Cutler has had his fair share of misconceptions throughout his career. While he is widely recognized for his exceptional physique and four-time Mr. Olympia titles, there is a prevalent misconception that Cutler doesn’t emphasize heavy lifting in his training regimen. However, this perception couldn’t be further from the truth.

Jay Cutler focused on cleaner and complete reps on moderately heavy weights compared to incomplete reps on super heavy weights. Cutler’s approach to training stems from his deep understanding of the mind-muscle connection and the importance of executing exercises with proper form. But this doesn’t necessarily mean that he didn’t lift heavily. Talking along the same lines, Cutler reacted to an old clip of him from 2003.

One of the hallmarks of Cutler’s training methodology is his dedication to cultivating a strong mind-muscle connection. By focusing on clean reps with lighter weights, he can better concentrate on the muscle being worked and establish a profound connection between his mind and body. However, Cutler did emphasize the principle of progressive overload, which involves continuously challenging the muscles by gradually increasing the weight lifted over time.

In his recent TikTok video, Cutler reacted to a leg workout session from 2003. During the part where he was doing squats, Cutler stated, “Everybody always said I wasn’t strong which is crazy…shoot here’s four plates like nothing no knee wraps or anything.”

Explaining this further, Cutler revealed, “I was always focused on doing you know full reps and always about concentration.” He continued by walking his viewers through his leg workout, where he explained the importance of several exercises and how they helped him.

Explaining a bit about his workout in the video, he pointed out, “Front squats are so important and I always did them on a smitch machine just because it was easier to balance for me.”

Cutler admits that legs have always been his strong point genetically. He continued further by talking about the importance of a good hamstring curl machine. “If you find the right lying hamstring machine, it’s always good for that,” said Jay Cutler.
