The 2019 French Open winner Ashleigh Barty has not been seen on court since the Qatar Open 2020. After reaching the semis of the Australian Open 2020, the World No. 1 did not take part in the US Open 2020. Things got worse for Barty when she could not defend her title at Roland Garros 2020. Tennis legend Boris Becker recently wrote in an article that he missed some great tennis players in Paris.
“I have missed the likes of recent Grand Slam champions Ash Barty, Naomi Osaka, and Bianca Andreescu,” wrote the former World No. 1.
Barty refused to play at the French Open 2020, citing health reasons. She said that the health of her family would always be a priority for her, but also mentioned that she couldn’t wait to play again.

The six-time Grand Slam winner Becker was clearly unhappy with Barty. He agreed that everyone had to make their own choice, but as many other Australian players were playing, he expected the 24-year-old to play.

“To me, it was a bit disappointing not to see Barty at either of the US or French Opens. These are difficult times and people are free to make their own choices but quite a few Australian players made the effort to play the US and French and to support the tour,” said a critical Becker.
The 52-year-old even took a dig at Barty. He claimed that Barty had hardly played in 2020. Becker even said that if she could watch football, she was absolutely fit to play.
“This year we have hardly seen Barty, who was watching Australian Rules football last week while the tournament she won 12 months ago was underway, or Andreescu,” said Becker.

Becker felt that there were already very few events happening for women in 2020. He even slammed the players for not showing up in Paris. “There are hardly any women’s events happening in 2020 after this… I could understand players not traveling to New York more because that was the first big event back with a lot of uncertainties, but it went well. It is a shame some did not come to Paris after that,” said an angry Becker.
