“No way, dude. Are you f—ing kidding me? He’s gonna be the hardest-hitting motherf—er you ever fought. Dude, holy f–k I’m gonna be freaking out,” said Jake Paul’s father, Gregory Allan Paul, with genuine concern when the announcement broke that his son would be stepping into the ring with none other than Mike Tyson in November, last year. Like many who grew up in the ’80s and ’90s, Gregory was a lifelong fan of Iron Tyson. But admiration turned into anxiety as his own son was set to face his idol, and the weight of that moment was not lost on him.

For Jake Paul, however, it wasn’t just about the challenge. It was about making history. Despite a relatively short boxing résumé at 11-1, The Problem Child has cemented himself as a massive draw. And maybe that’s one of the reasons why February almost saw him finalising a bout with Canelo Alvarez. Now, rather than taking on Gervonta Davis, Anthony Joshua, or even Canelo, Jake Paul is officially set to face Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. on June 28 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, marking Chavez Jr.’s first fight of 2025.

And amidst the training and promotion, Jake Paul also launched his new reality series Paul Americans on HBO Max on March 27, a project that brings fans into his family’s world. While earlier episodes focused on Logan Paul’s journey into fatherhood and Jake Paul’s girlfriend, the Dutch figure skater Jutta Leerdam’s painful life decision, this week’s episode took a more emotional turn. Why?

“Tough love. New episodes of #PaulAmerican Thursdays on @streamonmax,” read the caption as Paul American shared another gripping teaser from the latest episode on X. In the clip, Jake Paul opened up about his difficult and lonely childhood, a rare moment of vulnerability for the brash entertainer. So, with all the fame, fortune, and flash, what did it cost Jake emotionally to get here? “Our dad would literally lock us out of the house when he would go to work. And be like ‘I’ll be back in six, seven hours. You guys need to do 200 push-ups and find shit to do.’” Jake Paul revealed. For many, that might sound extreme, even harsh. But if you’re expecting their father, Greg Paul, to apologize for that kind of upbringing, think again.

The show then cuts to Greg Paul out by the water, catching crabs. There, Greg delivered his unfiltered truth: “There you go. Oh man, this stinks. For all the women out there that say, ‘Oh you’re toxic’, “Kiss my toxic a**” is what I say. Because, send your boy to me and I’m gonna raise your boy to be a young man.” Whether people agree with his methods or not, it’s hard to argue with the results. Why, you ask?

Well, if you see now, both Logan and Jake Paul have turned internet stardom into powerhouse careers. Logan as a WWE superstar and Jake Paul as a headline-making boxer. Beyond the ring and the ropes, the brothers have built an empire, with Logan’s net worth reaching an estimated $150 million by 2024 and Jake Paul’s sitting at a solid $100 million in 2025, according to Celebrity Net Worth. Now, they’ve become more than entertainers. They’re business moguls, brand builders, and two of the most recognizable names in combat sports and pop culture.

While Greg Paul might come across as unapologetic — even proud — of the tough love he showed while raising his sons, Jake Paul’s girlfriend, Jutta Leerdam, seems to see things through a different lens.

Lost in translation? What Jutta Leerdam really meant about Jake Paul’s dad

Last month, on an episode of Impaulsive, Logan Paul kicked things off with a playful question aimed at Jutta Leerdam: “What do you think about having Greg Paul as your father-in-law?” Without hesitation, the Dutch speed skater responded with a warm smile, “I think he’s pretty great.” But it was her next comment that caused the room to pause for a moment: “He has a small heart. He just has a big mouth and he talks a lot,” she said calmly.

To which, Co-host Mike Majlak quickly stepped in, sensing some cultural miscommunication. “I think we might have a language barrier.” he joked, prompting Jutta to clarify. “Oh, I translated it like literally out of Dutch,” she said with a laugh. When Nina asked what ‘a small heart’ meant, Jutta explained that in Dutch, calling someone ‘small-hearted’ is actually a sweet compliment. It’s like saying someone is soft or gentle at their core. “[In Dutch] We say small heart like that’s like a cute heart,” she clarified.

As for Greg Paul, he took it all in stride. With a chuckle, he said, “I am good with a cute heart. I like that.” And just like that, what started as a language slip turned into a wholesome exchange.
