Mexican boxing maestro Canelo Alvarez finally admitted his mistake and apologized to Argentine soccer great Lionel Messi ahead of the latter’s crucial FIFA World Cup clash with Poland.

Ever since Messi led the Albicelestes to thrilling victory against Mexico in the soccer world stage, photos of the team celebrating their achievement floated around the internet. One such photo seemed to show Messi disrespecting the Mexican jersey, which, in turn, angered Canelo.

“These last few days got carried away by the passion and love I feel for my country and made comments that were out of place for which want to apologize to Messi and the people of Argentina. Every day we learn something new and this time it was my turn,” Canelo wrote.

The Mexican further continued in another Tweet, “I wish both teams much success in their matches today and here we will continue supporting Mexico until the end.”
