Joe Rogan, UFC commentator and host of the Joe Rogan Experience, offered his thoughts on the Mayweather vs McGregor fight. Floyd Mayweather fought MMA star Conor McGregor in 2017. The fight would then become the biggest PPV in history in a global event watched everywhere.

Speaking to his guest Tony Hinchcliffe, Joe said, “Let me explain something, the reason why it was close is that Mayweather let him blow his wad.”

Conor McGregor shocked Joe Rogan

McGregor had become one of the biggest names in sports by 2017. ‘The Notorious’ one became the first UFC athlete to hold 2 title belts simultaneously as he won the featherweight and lightweight world title.

Floyd Mayweather would seize the opportunity to call out McGregor, setting up an unprecedented event. While Floyd ended up winning, as many experts predicted, Conor did put on a decent performance for his first-ever professional boxing match.

“Look he (McGregor) clipped Mayweather with a legit left uppercut early in the fight and I was kind of stunned. I was like, ‘Wow that’s really legit’,” the host of the JRE continued.

“Here’s the thing, Mayweather had to figure out Conor’s timing. Conor is not a professional boxer okay so because he’s not a professional boxer he’s not as efficient and he’s gonna get tired easier.”

Floyd Mayweather might be the greatest of all time

Joe believes that Conor had his work cut out against Mayweather. He went on to say, “Mayweather is one of the greatest if not the greatest boxers of all time.

“I say there’s a really good argument he’s the greatest of all time because he’s undefeated 50-0. He’s only been hurt by Sugar Shane Mosley and Maidana, two guys in a spectacular career 50 and 0.”

“He realized that Conor can punch, but just drag him into deep water and that’s what a guy like Mayweather would do.” Joe continued.

“He’s (Mayweather) the most intelligent in terms of his overall strategy to preserve his health yet to always win. He’s so good you know, all the greats have suffered losses and setbacks and except him.”
