The upcoming UFC blockbuster between Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier has seen the Irishman remain as the favorite. Despite being 1-1 in the 155 lbs journey, several fans have billed Conor McGregor to win the fight.

However, boxing trainer Teddy Atlas envisions a different outcome as he explained how Poirier has evolved since their featherweight clash in 2014. Conor McGregor stopped Dustin Poirier within 90 seconds of their first fight at 145.

After that, both fighters evolved differently. While McGregor became a 2-division champion, Poirier picked up the lightweight interim gold. As they are bound to lock horns again, Teddy Atlas sees a different Dustin Poirier and looks eager to rally in his favor.

Hailing ‘The Diamond’ on his podcast, Atlas said, “He (Dustin Poirier) was a baby then compared to what he is now, a baby compared to what he is now.

“He is a man now, he is a whole different fighter and person, technically, physically, and mentally, emotionally. It will show that night, only he (Dustin Poirier) knows.

“So, listen again (Conor) McGregor- good puncher, southpaw, tremendous striker, tremendous counter puncher, Poirier a different guy than he was. The ability to block it out, new fight. I think a chance for a new result.”

The winner of the fight might battle for the lightweight gold next. The reigning lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov, doesn’t seem eager to set foot into the octagon anytime soon.

Therefore, the UFC lightweight gold will be up for grabs yet again. That said, Poirier and McGregor cannot afford to lose the opportunity.

Conor McGregor vs Dustin Poirier- A boxing showdown in the UFC?

McGregor and Poirier are elite punchers, and a clash between them will certainly be a striking contest. Boxing will be an inevitable part of it, and both the lightweights are assumed to land haymakers.

McGregor has already vowed to take Poirier out within 60 seconds. Meanwhile, ‘The Diamond’ hopes for a long-lasting battle. We can expect a nail-biting fight between two of the best from the active roster.

No matter who takes the win, it will be an important fight for the division and the fans. If McGregor wins the fight, he will regain his dominance in the sport, and Poirier can also take sweet revenge by outpointing McGregor to level the scores.
