The NBA champion tweeted a link to a documentary on Amazon containing a number of antisemitic conspiracies. Although the tweet has since been deleted, the aftermath has caused him to be under fire for the better part of the week. However, Irving seemingly thinks that he has done nothing wrong and has the freedom to express his thoughts. This was shown after he shunned a reporter who confronted him on this issue.

Irving has caused a lot of drama and stirs previously as well. Some of them include not getting vaccinated during the 2021 season, resulting in him missing the majority of it. However, boxing legend Floyd Mayweather supported Irving before he got into a verbal altercation with a Boston Celtics fan, praising the NBA star in an Instagram post. Back in April, ‘Money’ posted a photo of him and Irving together and claimed that the two of them cannot be stopped if they stood for what they believed in them.

Although it is nice to see Mayweather supporting his fellow athletes, this does paint Mayweather in a bad light considering Irving’s recent controversies.

Kyrie Irving releases an apology for his remarks

Irving finally released an official apology for his actions following an indefinite suspension and public pressure after the press conference. The Nets point guard took to Instagram to apologize and claimed that what he posted previously was based on conspiracies. Irving’s suspension came after he refused to apologize for his actions and his behavior at the press conference.

Speaking with reporters for the second time since retweeting the documentary, Irving dismissed the reporters and stated he did not promote anything anti-Semitic on his social media. Moreover, this also led to backlash from the Anti-Defamation League, whose CEO Jonathan Greenblatt rejected a $500,000 donation from Irving.
