“Just Like He Said Floyd Said He Was Over Kobe [Bryant]”: Fans, in Disbelief, Troll Paul Pierce After He Opens Up About the Time He Almost Fought Floyd Mayweather Over a Misunderstanding

NBA legend Paul Pierce recently made headlines when he opened up about an altercation he had with legendary boxer Floyd Mayweather. The two legends had a lot of admiration and respect for each other. However, during a game between the Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers back when ‘The Truth’ was in the NBA, he had a misunderstanding with ‘Money’.

In a podcast interview, Pierce recounted a moment during a basketball game when Mayweather shouted something at him from the sidelines that he couldn’t quite make out. But whatever it was, it had the effect of firing Pierce up. The incident apparently occurred during a free throw in a game that he was playing where ‘TBE’ yelled something at him. However, when confronted by the NBA legend, Mayweather would calm down and claim that he was on the side of Pierce.

“I remember I was at the free throw and Floyd yelled out something, you know at the free throw. I looked at him and this just turned me on, it just turned me up. He yelled I don’t even remember what he said but I know I looked at him like I said, what you say like oh yeah he made that way and then I think he was like nah P I’m with y’all and I was like oh all right that turned me up. I said I was kind of like that like he said no I’m with y’all Pierce I bet with y’all.”  he said

Despite this revelation, the fans were not shy to troll the former NBA champion expressing their disbelief that the two sports stars almost got into a physical altercation over what was essentially a misunderstanding.

A user named J. stated that Pierce will say anything during interviews without a thought. “This man be saying anything” he wrote.

Another user named Slim claimed that the statement was a lie and also brought the late Kobe Bryant into the conversation. “(cap) just like he said Floyd said he was over Kobe lmao” he wrote.

Moreover, a user named Naz1204G was not happy that Pierce switched up on Mayweather. “He had to switch that on to up like a mf!” he wrote.

A user named Amari sarcastically agreed with ‘The Truth’s comments on ‘Money’, “Sureeee” he wrote.

Lastly, a user named smokedes2 defended Mayweather from people who claim that he ran away from Pierce. “Here come all the Floyd Mayweather ducked Paul Pierce chicken runner comments.” he wrote.

It’s worth noting that athletes in all sports use trash talk and psychological games to try and get into their opponents’ heads. In fact, some would argue that this kind of competitive banter is an essential part of the sports experience and that it can actually make games more exciting and engaging for fans. While Mayweather’s approaching Pierce might have been to get in his head as ‘Money’ is a staunch LA fan. However, Pierce may have ultimately been able to channel Mayweather’s words into a positive source of motivation.
